We’re excited to introduce the Paddle Games Athletes Commission — a group of three exceptional athletes working with us to shape the future of paddling races. Together, we’ll be building events that are faster, more fun, more innovative, and designed for the next generation of paddlers and fans.
On Tuesday, we introduced Victor Gairy Aasmul. Today, we’re proud to present Tom Liebscher-Lucz, three-time Olympic champion and a key member of the Paddle Games Athletes Commission.

What motivated you to say yes?
Canoe sprint has given me so much throughout my life. Joining the Athletes Commission is an opportunity to give something back. After many years in the sport, I feel I can contribute my experience and support ideas that help move canoe sprint forward.
What does canoe sprint need more of right now?
Visibility. We have incredible athletes, stories, and races, but too few people get to see them. We need to make our sport easier to discover, follow, and connect with.
Who is this sport for?
Everyone who enjoys speed, competition, and being active outdoors. I want new paddlers and fans to feel inspired and excited the first time they experience our sport.
What would you create?
A festival-style event in the heart of a city with short, exciting races, music, athlete interaction, and activities for families. A place where sport, entertainment, and community come together.
What do you take away from this role for yourself?
I hope to learn from other athletes, gain new perspectives, and contribute to meaningful changes. It is a chance to grow as an athlete, a leader, and as a person.
